The Minority Coaches Association of Georgia “Future Head” Coaches Academy is an educational forum where individuals who have been identified as a potential head coaches by administrators or head coaches in the membership will simulate the high school interview process from researching the position to their first staff meeting after becoming a head coach.  By achieving the following objectives, the forum is providing tailored education to future head coaches at the high school level. 
Requirements:   8 or more years of experience
Application:
The selection process will be competitive as only a total of ten coaches will be selected to participate in the academy. Applicants will be asked to submit a resume and personal statement. In the personal statement, applicants need to ensure they discuss, in detail, the following:
Why do you want to attend the 2017 MCAofGA Coaches Academy?
  • What do you hope to gain from your experience at the Coaches Academy?
  • What inspired you to pursue a career in coaching?
  • What is your philosophy for developing your student-athletes to ensure these young men or women are prepared for life once their athletic career ends?
To submit an application for the 2017 MCAofGA Coaches Academy, please visit www.mcaofga.com to apply. All application materials must be submitted by Friday, March 24, 2017 to be considered.
Program Objective:
  • Assist the coaches with career advancement, networking and exposure opportunities, and to raise awareness regarding the substantial pool of talented and qualified coaching candidates. Most of the participants are offensive or defensive coordinators, assistant head coaches, middle school head coaches or have experience in years that elevates them to the consideration level for head coaching positions.
  • Participants will participate in various formats of mock interviews with key decision makers in the schools hiring process.
  • Participants will learn a realistic view of the role of and the preparation of  becoming a successful head coach in high school athletics.
  • Participants will network with head coaching professionals and directors of athletics from GHSA member institutions
Goal:  
The goal of the Academy is to assist with career advancement, networking and exposure opportunities, and to raise awareness regarding the substantial pool of talented and qualified coaching candidates.
Topics:
  • Communications - media, booster relations, interviewing skills, and building a portfolio (Being an effective communicator)
  • Fiscal Responsibilities - fundraising, budgeting and development
  • Building a Successful Program - hiring coaches, managing coaching staffs, building a portfolio (game strategy), maintaining relationships with administrators, athletic directors, alumni, student-athletes, faculty and members of the community 
  • Academic Issues - academic support, retention, GHSA rules and regulations, academic success
  • How to build a personal and professional brand
  • Successful networking
  • Coaching contracts
  • Building relationships in college for recruiting
  • Effective leadership, Time management
  • Coaching players in the new millennium
  • How to deal with struggling programs
  • How to stay current in your profession
  • Understanding administrator’s expectations
  • Balancing Faith, Family and Football
  • Interview process.
